Jimmy Page, the guitarist from what is considered by most to be the greatest rock band ever. Led Zeppelin. What drove him to be such an amazing guitar player? and how did he discover Zeppelin?
James Patrick Page was born January 9th, 1944 in Heston a western suburb in London. in 1952 they moved to Feltham then to Miles Road, Epsom in Surrey. It was there Page got his first guitar, it was sitting in the living room of the new house. He started playing at the age of 8 and dropped out of school to pursue his music at the age of 16. He started playing with a band called The Yardbirds in 1966 with Jeff Beck (guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass), Keith Moon (Drums) and Nicky Hopkins (Keyboard). The all in all experience from the group gave Page an idea, one that would change rock forever. A supergroup, featuring Himself, Jeff Beck and The Who's John Entwistle and Keith Moon. However, the lack of a quality vocalist and contractual problems prevented the project from getting off the ground. During this time Entwistle commented that the proceedings would take to the air like a lead balloon. Giving Page the name, "Led Zeppelin".
After many line-up changes The Yardbirds dispersed and Page pursued his supergroup with a different cast of characters, John Paul Jones (Bass), Robert Plant (Vocals), and John Bonham (Drums) and in 1970 Led Zeppelin was born.
Page has always favored his Les Pauls and he currently resides in his castle in Sonning, Berkshire.
